TFCC’s Commitment to DEI Training

Fostering an inclusive workplace is essential for the success and well-being of Tillamook Family Counseling Center’s team and those we serve in the community. TFCC recognizes the importance of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and has taken significant strides to ensure that our team is well-equipped to communicate effectively and respectfully in a diverse environment. TFCC’s decision to implement a comprehensive diversity training reflects our commitment to creating a supportive and welcoming counseling center for everyone.

TFCC is partnering with Cascade Employers Association to implement a comprehensive DEI Training for all TFCC employees. The second diversity training session, scheduled in August, focuses on the theme “Say This, Not That: Improving DEI Communication.” This session aims to equip employees with the necessary tools to communicate effectively and sensitively, especially when discussing sensitive topics related to diversity.

One of the key learning objectives of the training is to recognize and understand 10 core principles that can inadvertently undermine good intentions. Additionally, during the training, participants will examine harmful statements and phrases that may alienate or marginalize others and learn to rephrase their statements using inclusive and respectful language with guidance from expert facilitators. The final learning objective will introduce 6 strategies to improve communication in a diverse environment.
