In a community like Tillamook County, agriculture isn’t just an industry, it’s a way of life. Agricultural workers play a vital role in sustaining our local economy and food systems. But behind that important work are unique pressures that can take a toll on mental health. Long hours, physical demands, unpredictable weather, financial uncertainty, and the responsibility of maintaining a livelihood that often spans generations can all contribute to ongoing stress.
For many in agriculture, it can be difficult to prioritize mental health or seek support. The values that make this community strong—independence, resilience, and a deep sense of responsibility—can also make it harder to reach out. There can be a tendency to “push through” challenges, even when support could make a meaningful difference. In smaller, rural communities, concerns about privacy or stigma can also play a role in whether someone feels comfortable asking for help.
At the same time, taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your land, your animals, or your business. Support doesn’t have to mean stepping away from your responsibilities—it can be a way to stay strong, focused, and able to continue doing the work that matters most. Whether it’s talking with a professional, connecting with trusted peers, or accessing local resources, small steps can make a big difference over time.
At TFCC, we’re here to support the individuals and families who keep our community running. We understand the unique challenges of rural and agricultural life and are committed to providing compassionate, accessible care.
